First Party

We had our first party today.  We celebrated the sweet lives of 7 little children with facepainting and tattoos, playdough, crafting, playing, beading, yummy and beautiful cupcakes, presents and goody bags.  What a fun afternoon!  Can't wait to do it again next month!

March Party Planning

Here are our current plans for our first party.


Our overall theme of the month is Spring.  There will be 6 "Stations."
1.  Facepainting/Tattoos
2.  Craft: Making a patchwork notebook
3.  Playdough
4.  Coloring
5.  Beading
6.  Guess What Game (Reach into a bag and try to guess the spring-y item.)

We will also have a small area set up with books and toys for younger children.  And there will be games like "Chicken Limbo" and "Ele-fun," etc. available.

Planned Schedule
1:00-2:00 Set up
2:00-2:30 "Station" time
2:30-2:45  Structured Activites (music, story-time)/Continued "Station" time for older children and adults
2:45-3:00  Sing Happy Birthday, Cupcakes, Presents, Goody Bags
3:00-3:30  Clean up

First Party Date

We are starting to plan our first Birthday Party at Hudson River Housing on Saturday March 13 at 2pm.  Later this week we should find out how many children are having birthdays this month so that we can really start planning for the day. :)

Starting to Put the Pieces Together

We met with Sharon at Hudson River Housing this past Friday to gather more information.  There are currently approximately 60 children staying there, but that number changes all of the time.  There are about 4-5 birthdays to be celebrated each month for children ages 0-16.

We will be trying to establish a regular monthly schedule--currently we're leaning towards having the parties on the second Saturday of each month (hopefully starting in March).  The parties will take place in the dining room and so we will plan to get started by 2pm (to begin after lunch and before dinner).

Components of the party will probably include a cake/cupcakes for ~40 people, a face-painting/tattoo station, a game (pin the tail on the donkey, the limbo, etc.) and maybe some short entertainment (song time, magic show, etc.--we'll need your skills!).

At this time we need volunteers to help donate and collect supplies as well as to help at the party.  Let us know how you would like to help out by leaving a comment below.
